WIC Month
NAWIC
Lowcountry #354
Promoting Women in the Construction Industry
NAWIC Members across the nation celebrated WIC Week March 2 - 8, 2008.  Here in the Lowcountry we like to celebrate all month long, thus we had WIC Month.  The purpose of WIC Month is to increase the visibility of women working in the construction industry.  Props to Ronnie Frutchey of Blanchard Construction who was intrumental in obtaining South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's Proclamation for WIC Week, 2008.

2008 Lowcountry WIC Month was a huge success!  We really stepped out this year, getting more involved on a community level to spread the word about NAWIC and women in the construction industry.  Many thanks & kudos to all members and guests who attended and/or helped out with these events.

2008 WIC Month found Lowcountry chapter members participating in the following:

Constructing & installing new shelves for Lowcountry Orphan Relief's shoe room.
The Lowcountry ladies, along with one guest from Liollio Architecture went to task,
building new shelves to give LOR plenty of room for all of its donated shoes.
Volunteering at a NAWIC booth for the Lowcountry Construction Career Fair.
Several of our members spoke with high school students not only about women in        the constructoin industry, but also about opportunities for careers in the field.
Volunteering at a NAWIC booth at the CSI Products Fair.  Many of of members    worked this event, which is widely attended by architects and contractors, to share       information and raise awareness about NAWIC.
And, of course, socializing and networking with Lowcountry members and guests         through a WIC lunch & happy hour

We wrapped up the festivities with our Monthly chapter meeting.  We had several guests and enjoyed an entertaining and informative presentation from Dennis Knight of Liollio Architecture about the USGBC, the LEED rating system, and green concepts for building.

And again - Many thanks to all of our members & guests who contributed to the success of these events!

Stay tuned for WIC Month 2009...
